COSMIC SOUL
Urban Electronic Music for Relaxed People

OUR STORY
The story of Cosmic Soul began during the coronavirus pandemic and the lockdowns. Back then, I received an enquiry from my former MTV boss Stephan Schwarzer, who was Head of Programmes at Deluxe Music at the time. He wanted to revitalise the Lounge TV channel with sound and vision. I put together some proposals that he really liked, but unfortunately we couldn't agree on the copyrights. However, my studio partner Axel Latta and I had taken a great liking to the project and enjoyed working on it. We initially called it ‘Deluxe Music’ as a working title, but later decided on the name Cosmic Soul. At this point, we had already produced over 50 tracks. My publisher ‘Hille’ was so enthusiastic that he presented the project to Boris Müller-Bernhard, then A&R at Nitron Music, a division of Sony. Boris Müller-Bernhard then signed the first 50 tracks and the entire project for Nitron. However, as the label was in the process of being reorganised and relocated, the contract was not renewed. I therefore decided to found my own small label for urban electronic music in order to offer this music a platform. Anything else would only have led to confusion. Why Cosmic Soul was created in the first place can only be explained by my musical past: I listened to a lot of soul, funk and hip-hop in my youth. Until the mid-90s I was even a hip-hop DJ. The acid jazz movement and bands like Massive Attack, Brand New Heavies and DJ Krush also had a strong influence on me. I always wanted to create something that reflected this influence. Maybe that's why the house music I've produced has always been very vocal-heavy. Who knows? In any case, Cosmic Soul is a project close to my heart that I really want to pursue. Almost 100 tracks have now been released, and musically the whole thing is very urban, but also strongly characterised by electronic influences. Cosmic Soul has two faces, so to speak: downbeat and upbeat tracks. The YouTube channel is also doing quite well now. I now edit all the videos myself. It would be great if Cosmic Soul could find lots of new followers. Everyone I've introduced it to so far has been enthusiastic. Unfortunately, it's a type of music that you have to listen to consciously - and that doesn't quite fit in with our hectic times. But once you've acquired a taste for it, you'll love it.
